Police Say Driver In I-84 Accident Had Suspended License

State Police say five people were injured —  one critically–  in a single vehicle accident eastbound on Interstate 84 Saturday shortly before 3 p.m.  The accident took place near exit  39.

Police say a Subaru Forester driven by 50-year-old Ramono Cancel of New Britain went out of control, onto the right shoulder,  struck a light pole and rolled over several times before coming to rest on the metal guard rail.  49-year-old Marilyn Cancel, 17-year-old Joel Cancel  and  19-year-old Melvin Melendez, all of New Britain,  suffered minor injuries,  but police say  18-year-old Raymond Cancel suffered serious head injuries and possible internal injuries. All were taken to Hartford Hospital.

Police say Ramono Cancel’s license had been suspended in March of last year,  and he refused to give a statement at the scene.
