York Inmate Charged With Attack On Guard

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ An inmate at the York Correctional Institution women’s prison has been accused of attacking a guard with a shower curtain rod.

A Connecticut Department of Correction spokesman says the captain was struck in the head Monday afternoon and that two other correction officers were injured as they secured the inmate.

The spokesman said Tuesday that state police were called to the prison in Niantic and the inmate was charged with three counts of assault on a correction officer, second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.

The guards were all treated at a hospital and released.

He said the case is under investigation and he could not release the names of those involved.
