Federal Agents Raid West Haven Housing Authority

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (AP) _ Federal agents have raided offices at the West Haven Housing Authority and one of its apartment complexes, and the mayor is calling for all Housing Authority commissioners to resign.

The FBI removed boxes and filing cabinets from the authority’s office Tuesday morning and also searched the rental office at the Meadow Lands Apartments. FBI officials declined to comment.

Mayor John Picard released a statement saying he didn’t know the reasoning behind the raids, but said the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has been investigating the Housing Authority’s finances. He said town officials have been talking with HUD authorities since December.

No one answered the phone at the Housing Authority Tuesday afternoon.

Picard says he’s requesting the voluntary resignations of the authority commissioners.
