After news reports that the former police chief at the University of ConnecticutUConn’s police chief made more than $250,000 a year, the university hired a consultant to review the pay of the school’s top administrators. That report by Sibson Consulting has now been released, and it finds that while UConn does not have a coherent philosophy for determining pay of administrators, the salaries for administrators at UConn are similar to those at other schools.
Spokesman Mike Kirk says the report provides some guidelines for the university. He says a number of factors affect pay, including skills, experience, expertise, merit, and performance.
The report was presented to UConn trustees this week. The trustees are considering appointing a permanent committee to oversee pay of top administrators. About fifty administrators are not covered by bargaining units.
