CONCORD, N.H. (AP) _ Officials say a former New Hampshire hospital employee has been charged with causing a hepatitis C outbreak among patients at Exeter Hospital’s cardiac catheterization lab.
U.S. Attorney John Kacavas says 33-year-old David Kwiatkowski is a former Exeter lab technician.
He was arrested Thursday at a hospital in Massachusetts where he is receiving medical treatment. He was charged with fraudulently obtaining drugs and tampering with a consumer product.
Investigators say they believe he stole syringes containing an anesthetic and injected himself, then put another liquid in the same syringes. Those were injected into patients.
Altogether, 31 people, including Kwiatkowski, have tested positive for the same strain of the disease since the investigation began in late May.
