Prison Guard Charged With Attempted Narcotics Smuggling

A state prison guard has been arrested and charged with multiple drug accounts.

Police say members of the State Police Tactical Team moved in and arrested Corrections Officer Arcolain Fountain while he was buying drugs Tuesday.  Investigators believe he planned to carry the drugs into a state prison.

The 46-year-old Fountain was making the transaction in the commuter lot of I-84, exit 28, in Southington.

Police say the investigation began in March when they received a tip that a prison guard might attempt to smuggle illegal narcotics into the Chesire Correctional Institution.

Fountain was charged with attempt to possess narcotics, attempt to possess a hallucinogenic, and attempt to convey narcotics in a prison.

Police say detectives also found and seized handguns at Fountain’s home.

Fountain was held on a $100,000 surety bond and will appear in Meriden Court today.
