Syracuse, Big East Finalize Orange Departure

The websites of the Big East conference and of  the Syracuse University athletics department have posted identical news releases announcing that Syracuse and the Big East have agreed on the terms for Syracuse’s departure from the Big East,  to move to the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The release says Syracuse will end its membership in the Big East effective July 1  of next year,  paying the Big East $7.5 million cash,  and what it described as “other consideration.”

Syracuse Athletic Director Dr. Daryl Gross says the Orange look forward to what he called the “extraordinary competititve opportunities that membership in the ACC offers.”

Interim Big East Commissioner Joe Bailey says the move closes one chapter for the conference and opens another.
