Small Plane Crash-Lands In Corn Field

NORTH STONINGTON, Conn. (AP) _ Two men have escaped serious injury when a small plane crash-landed in a corn field in eastern Connecticut.

The crash of the single-engine plane was reported at about 7:20 p.m. Wednesday off Clark Falls Road in North Stonington.

The plane’s only passenger tells the newspaper the pilot contacted air traffic controllers when the plane ran out of fuel on a trip from New Jersey to New Bedford, Mass.

The passenger, who declined to give his name, said the pilot decided he couldn’t make it to the nearest airstrip in Westerly, R.I., and tried to land in the field. The newspaper said only the plane’s tail was visible from the road amid rows of corn.

The pilot was taken to a hospital as a precaution and the passenger accompanied him.
