Driver Shot By Hartford Police Is Identified

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ State police have identified a man who was shot to death by Hartford police after he allegedly rammed a police cruiser and drove at several officers.

Officials say 30-year-old Ernesto Morales of Hartford was the person killed Wednesday.

State police said Thursday that Hartford Officer William Cody was forced to open fire when Morales drove a stolen SUV at Cody and other officers. The SUV then slammed through the wall of an apartment building.

No one inside the building was hurt. A passenger in the SUV, 35-year-old Martin Casseras of Hartford, was injured and underwent surgery.

State police are investigating the incident.

Cody and fellow officers Kenneth Medina, Kenneth Labbe and Robert Iovanna have been placed on administrative duty pending the investigation.
