Illegal Fireworks Suspected Of Starting Fire At Old Mill

View Comments

COLCHESTER, Conn. (AP) _ A weekend fire that destroyed an abandoned paper mill in Colchester was apparently sparked by some illegal fireworks.

Colchester Fire Marshal Reed Gustafson tells the Norwich Bulletin that 50 pieces from bottle rockets and other illegal fireworks were found outside the mill on Westchester Road.

More than 20 fire departments responded to the blaze, which broke out at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, and consumed the 26-thousand square foot mill, which was built in 1895.

No arrests have been made.
