BERLIN, Conn. (AP) _ Heavy smoke could be seen from miles away as firefighters from several towns battled a blaze at a processing plant for construction and demolition materials in Berlin.

The fire broke out at Connecticut Waste Processing Materials on Christian Lane on Monday morning. State records show the plant processes wood products, shingles, Sheetrock and other materials.

It’s not clear if anyone was injured or if the cause is known.

An official at the company didn’t immediately return a message.
