Deadly Motorcycle Accident In Torrington

On Wednesday, at 6:27 p.m., a man crashed while driving his motorcycle on Winsted Road in Torrington and was pronounced dead at the scene. The man is identified as John Coon, 42, of 155 Alpha Ave., Winsted.

The Torrington Police Department, along with the Torrington Fire Department, the Burrville Fire Department and Campion Ambulance responded to the scene. Upon arrival officers found a 2004 Yamaha R1 motorcycle had been traveling North on the Winsted Road.

The motorcycle left skid marks in the roadway and struck a vehicle and then the guardrails along the shoulder of the roadway. Officers found Coon had sustained trauma to his head and torso. He was pronounced dead at that scene by Campion Ambulance personnel. Coon was not wearing a helmet at that time of the crash.

The Torrington Police Department Accident Investigation Team was called out to investigate the crash. The case remains open and under investigation.
