The University of Connecticut says plans still are being finalized for a basketball opener between the Huskies and the Michigan State Spartans in Europe this fall, but confirms an ESPN.com story that preparations are in the works for the game at Ramstein Air Base in Germany as part of Salute to Veterans Week specials on the all-sports network.

ESPN.com  quotes UConn Coach Jim Calhoun as saying it’s appropriate for the players to honor American servicemen and women returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, especially on Veteran’s Day.  The game would be on Friday, November 9.

Three other military-related games also are in the works for the same day”  Florida-Georgetown in Jacksonville, Florida; Ohio State-Marquette in Charleston, South Carolina; and Syracuse-San Diego State in San Diego, California.
