WOODBRIDGE, Conn. (AP) _ A passenger in a rental truck that was stopped in a residential Woodbridge neighborhood was charged with murder after police found a body in the back rolled up in a carpet, police said Tuesday.
Josue Rivera, 27, confessed to police that he stabbed the victim several days earlier, according to a statement from New Haven police. He was charged with murder and tampering with evidence. Police offered no details on a possible motive.
The victim, 31-year-old Anthony Pesapane, had been visiting Rivera when he was killed at a multi-family home in New Haven, police said.
The rental truck was pulled over Monday evening by Woodbridge police who received call about a suspicious truck. A man and a woman were inside, and police said the officers asked for permission to search the cargo area after noting their stories did not match. The driver, Marta Matejkowska, authorized the search that led to the body, police said.
Woodbridge investigators called New Haven police who spoke with Rivera.
Matejkowska is charged with tampering with evidence. It could not immediately be determined whether Rivera and Matejkowska have attorneys.
