HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Top leaders of various Connecticut unions are showing their support for House Speaker Chris Donovan, a congressional candidate whose former finance director was arrested on charges he tried to illegally hide the source of campaign contributions.
More than 150 people turned out for a rally outside the Connecticut Education Association, the state’s largest teachers’ union, on Wednesday evening. The speakers vowed to support Donovan in his 5th Congressional District run, praising him for his record on helping working families.
Donovan refused to answer questions about the federal investigation, which ensnared Robert Braddock Jr. Last week, Braddock was arrested on allegations he conspired with others to hide the source of $20,000. His lawyer says he’s innocent.
Donovan told the crowd that he’s done nothing wrong and said he is holding his head high.
