Police: Woman Bought Alcohol Morning Of Baby’s Death

MERIDEN, Conn. (AP) – Court records show a Meriden woman was buying alcohol the morning her 10-month-old niece was found dead after being left in her care.

Thirty-four year old Lisa Figueroa was arraigned Tuesday on a risk of injury charge, and ordered held on $150,000 bond.

The Hartford Courant reports court records show Figueroa was caught on video tape buying small bottles of liquor from a nearby store, when she was supposed to be watching the 10-month old and her 2-year-old sister.

Figueroa told authorities she found the 10-month-old unresponsive Dec. 21 after waking from a short nap. The child had become wedged between the mattress and a headboard of a bed.

Police found empty liquor bottles on the bedroom floor.
