NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) _ Yale is celebrating its 311th commencement.
The school will confer degrees on more than 1,200 students in ceremonies on Monday morning.
As is tradition, the main graduation speech came Sunday, during Class Day festivities on the Old Campus.
Students heard from journalist Barbara Walters, who talked about finding her bliss and learning from failure.
Several students also received honors, including Brett Smith a former football player who was seriously injured car accident on Interstate 95 as a freshman in 2003. Four other Yale athletes were killed in that crash.
Smith, who suffered a brain injury and was in a coma after the accident, defied doctors’ predictions and has earned a bachelor’s degree in history.
