NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) _ Federal authorities have arrested dozens of people in an investigation of drug crimes and violence on the streets of New Haven.
Thursday’s roundups came after a federal grand jury indicted 63 people in an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, which began looking into gang activities and drug trafficking involving cocaine, crack cocaine and heroin in the Dwight and Chapel neighborhoods last year.
Many of the people who were indicted appeared in U.S. District Court in New Haven on Thursday, while authorities searched for other suspects. Officials filed drug trafficking charges that carry a minimum of 10 years in prison and up to life in prison.
Federal magistrates from Hartford and Bridgeport went to New Haven to help handle the court appearances.
More details aren’t immediately available.
