After an 18-year-affiliation with Connecticut Public Television, the University of Connecticut has signed a new four-year-deal with SNY for broadcast of UConn women’s basketball. A release from UConn says the two sides still must complete and sign a contract on the agreement.
UConn says SNY will televise a minimum of 17 live UConn games, with an annual rights fee averaging about $1.14 million, compared to $900,000 a year for the contract with CPTV.
SNY, one of 14 regional sports networks managed by Comcast Sports Management Group, currently has television rights for UConn football and men’s basketball.
UConn President Susan Herbst called the affiliation a great opportunity for the school to reach alumni inside and outside Connecticut. In addition to live games, SNY will broadcast game replays, a weekly coach’s show during basketball season and two or three specials a year, called “Geno’s Legacy” and featuring interviews with former UConn players.
