Mental Evaluation Ordered For Ashford Man Charged In UConn Kidnap Attempt

VERNON, Conn. (AP) – A judge has ordered a mental health evaluation for a 57-year-old Ashford man charged with trying to abduct a woman at the University of Connecticut.

Bruce Ursin was arraigned Friday in Rockville Superior Court on charges of attempted kidnapping and attempted aggravated sexual assault.

Ursin’s lawyer told the judge his client has a psychiatric history.

The woman told police she was walking on Horsebarn Hill Road Thursday afternoon when a masked man with a pistol told her to get into his truck. She ran and called police. The pickup was found after university officials sent a text message alert to the UConn community.

Police said they found items they described as a “rape kit” in the truck. Police said Ursin told them he had been drinking and wouldn’t have harmed anyone.
