Huskies Invited To “Jimmy V” Classic

The University of Connecticut Huskies have been chosen to take part in the 2012 “Jimmy V Basketball Classic” at Madison Square Garden in December.  They’ll face North Carolina State in the 9 p.m. game.   Georgetown and Texas will play at 7 p.m.  It’s UConn’s first appearance in the tournament.

The UConn women will  make their fifth appearance in the Jimmy V Women’s Classic, taking on Maryland on Dec. 3 at either Gampel Pavilion or the XL Center at 7 p.m.

It will be the fifth meeting for the UConn and NC State men.  Each has won two games.

The Jimmy V Classic is a fundraiser for the V Foundation for Cancer Research,  which has raised more than $120 million for cancer research. It was founded by the late Jim Valvano, former head coach at North Carolina State,  who died of cancer in 1993.
