School Bus Accident on Hartford Turnpike in Vernon

Vernon police closed Hartford Turnpike, Route 30,  Thursday afternoon,  between South Street and Vernon Avenue because of an accident involving a school bus.

The bus was carrying   middle school children at the time,  and some were taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
The accident was reported shortly after 2:30 p.m.

The Vernon Public Schools  issued a release saying the bus carrying 28 students hit a telephone pole.Eight  students were taken from the accident scene to the hospital for evaluation.An administrator accompanied the remaining students back to Vernon Center Middle School,  where school nurses checked each student.Five other students were taken  to area hospitals from the school.The  bus driver was also taken to the hopsital.All the injuries appeared to be minor.
