St. Francis Asks Supreme Court To Overturn Reardon Judgement
The state Supreme Court today heard arguments in Saint Francis Hospital’s effort to overturn a $2.7-million judgment against the hospital, in a Doctor George Reardon child sex abuse lawsuit.
The hospital claims there were problems with the judge’s instructions to jurors, and argues that it should not be held responsible for the actions of the doctor.
Attorney Tim O’Keefe works for one of the law firms representing the victims.
“The jury instruction that he gave reflects well-settled law in the state of Connecticut, as it relates to negligence claims such as this,” O’Keefe said.
The state Supreme Court took up this case quickly, because there were bout 140 similar cases pending.
Most of those lawsuits have now been settled.
Thousands of images of child pornography were found hidden in Reardon’s West Hartford home, years after his death.
The people suing the hospital say Reardon molested and photographed them at his office at Saint Francis.
The abuse involved a large number of children, and lasted for decades.
