WTIC  Sports has learned that former University of Connecticut soccer star Tim Masley, a right back who was a major component of UConn’s 1981 national championship team, was found dead over the weekend in Ghana, Africa.    He was 50 years old and the father of three.

Details are sketchy but foul play is suspected.

Immediately after college Masely went into the investment business and was hit hard by the 1987 stock market crash.

About a year ago he founded a gold mining business in Ghana.

Masley played soccer at E.O. Smith High School in Storrs for three years.  In the 1981 National Championship,  he is remembered for making a critical goal-line stop in the match against Alabama A & M.
