Deadly House Fire In Wolcott

A man is dead and his mother was injured in a house fire on Central Avenue in Wolcott early Saturday.

Firefighters say the blaze in a single-family home was called in by a neighbor shortly after 2:30 a.m. Neighbors were able to pulled the woman from the home, but her son did not make it out, according to authorities.

The woman, in her 80s, was conscious when she was pulled from the home, said authorities. She was taken to an area hospital where she was reported in critical condition.

Some 50 firefighters responded to the blaze and it took them roughly 45 minutes to put it out.

The home is said to be a total loss. A cat also died in the fire.

The Wolcott and State Fire Marshals are investigating the cause of the blaze.
