Police Drive Injured Man To Hospital On Hood Of Cruiser

A 20-year-old man is reported in serious but stable condition after being stabbed during a street fight late Thursday in Vernon. Police say the crowd was so disorderly and the wound appeared so serious that they put the injured man on the hood of the cruiser to drive him the 300 yards to the emergency room at Rockville General Hospital without waiting for an ambulance.

The search for the actual stabbing suspect continues,  but two other people were picked up, charged with interfering with police and medical personnel.

The victim, Robert Haskell of Broad Brook, remains hospitalized at Hartford Hospital.

45-year-old Malcolm Atwater of East Hartford and 21-year-old Generio Jones of Vernon are charged with breach of peace and rioting.

Police say the stabbling took place during an argument on Union Street in the Rockville section.

Anyone with information is asked to call Vernon police at (860) 872-9126.
