Coast Guard Barque Eagle Gets Airlift Of Part To Make Repairs

The Coast Guard barque Eagle, whose home port is New London, is due to arrive in New Orleans on schedule Tuesday,  for the Bicentennial Commemoration of the War of 1812,  despite mechanical problems during its trip.

The Coast Guard says leakage from a saltwater pump worsened late last week,   and a replacement pump delivered Friday was the wrong size.  On Sunday,   the air crew from Coast Guard Air Station Miami airdropped a new part into the Gulf of Mexico, where it was pickedup by a small boat crew from the Eagle,   taken back to the Eagle, and installed by engineers on board.
