Torrington Man Charged With Assaulting Toddler

TORRINGTON, Conn. (AP) – A Torrington man has been charged in a February assault on his girlfriend’s 18-month-old son, who remains hospitalized with multiple skull fractures and a broken arm.

State police charged 29-year-old Michael Brown on Monday with first-degree assault and risk of injury to a minor. He was detained on $250,000 bail pending arraignment Tuesday in Bantam Superior Court.

Troopers say Brown was the live-in boyfriend of the toddler’s mother. Authorities did not release additional details about the assault.

State police Lt. J. Paul Vance says the boy is being treated at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford and may have permanent injuries.

Brown’s lawyer, Brian Woolf, says his client denies the allegations. State records show Brown also has pending drug and theft charges and convictions for DUI and disorderly conduct.
