Waterbury Firefighters Expected To Be At Scene of Factory Blaze For Days

It could take firefighters in Waterbury days to fully extinguish a blaze in an abandoned factory building on Mill Street. Firefighters were called to the building around 5:30 p.m. Saturday and immediately called out a second alarm upon finding a large working fire.

Waterbury Assistant Fire Chief Mike Couture says the dilapidated condition of the building meant firefighters were unable to enter and had to fight the blaze from outside. Fire personnel quickly got the fire under control, but Couture says it could take 3-4 days to fully extinguish it.

It is not known if anyone was inside the building at the time the fire started. Couture says the blaze does appear to be suspicious. Fire companies from nearby towns were called in to cover the city while Waterbury firefighters battled the blaze.
