Prison Officials ID Inmate Who Died

The Connecticut Department of Correction has identified the Cheshire Correctional Institution inmate who apparently committed suicide on Monday.

Officials say Philip Richardson, 55, of Middletown was serving an 18 year sentence for manslaughter.

Richardson was found in his cell late Monday morning with a piece of bed sheet tied around his neck and the other end secured to the window bars of his cell, said authorities.

Richardson was pronounced dead at the Hospital of Central Connecticut Southington campus.
