Veteran DOT Worker Killed On Route 8

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) – A state Department of Transportation supervisor who was struck by a truck in Naugatuck has died from his injuries.

Authorities say 41-year-old Daniel Dinardi of Rocky Hill had parked on the shoulder of Route 8 northbound and got out apparently to remove an object from the road when he was struck by a tractor-trailer Thursday afternoon.

DOT spokesman Judd Everhart says Dinardi was well known around the headquarters and well liked.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman issued a statement expressing gratitude for Dinardi’s 21 years of service to the Transportation Department.

They say the accident is a reminder to reflect on the efforts of state workers who are at risk every day as they perform their jobs.
