Northbound lanes of the Merritt Parkway were closed for a time Monday near exit 39,  after a driver ignored the ban on  tractor trailers on the parkway and drove the rig carrying artificial turf for Fairfield University into an overpass in Norwalk.

The truck was damaged,  and its load of turf had to be unloaded and carried away.  A spokesman for the Department of Transportation says there appeared to be no structural damage to the overpass itself.
