NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — Occupy New Haven protesters will be announcing that they won’t be leaving the city Green despite requests by local officials.
The group has scheduled a news conference for 12:30 p.m. Monday at City Hall.
Occupy protesters say they’re not leaving the Green because city officials haven’t met their demands for improved school funding and low-income housing, longer library hours and an end to foreclosures. A lawyer for the protesters says it could take years in court proceedings to evict the occupiers.
City officials told the protesters last week that tents and other structures on the Green will be removed this month. Officials didn’t threaten to evict the activists, but said they need to get a permit.
