A Norwich man was killed Friday night in a four-vehcile crash on Interstate 395 in Montville.

State Police say Benjamin Demond, 33, was pronounced dead after his car was hit by an SUV trying to use an emergency vehicle turn-around on the southbound side of the highway. Demond lost control of his 2004 Nissan Maxima, trying to avoid the crash and went into oncoming traffic, where he slammed head-on into another SUV, and then was hit by a passing car, said authorities.

Police say two children in Demond’s car were taken to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.

The crash occurred around 9:17 p.m. Friday and resulted in portions of the highway being closed until early Saturday.

The crash remains under investigation.
