Gunshot Narrowly Misses Homeowner Doing the Dishes

At approximately 11 p.m., Wednesday, Old Saybrook Police began investigating the unlawful discharge of a .40 caliber handgun inside a residence that almost struck a person while she was doing the dishes in an adjacent home.

The discharged round exited the home of John Patrick Kelly, 45, of 35 Attawanahood Trail, and went through the window of 37 Attawanahood Trail, narrowly missing the homeowner as she was doing dishes at the kitchen sink. The discharged round went through a solid wood cabinet and then through a stainless steel sink.

Police have arrested Kelly and charged him with carrying a firearm while under the influence, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and second-degree reckless endangerment. Kelly is being held on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in the Middletown Superior Court this morning.

Detectives are currently processing the crime scene in one of the dwellings and are awaiting a search and seizure warrant to be issued for the second dwelling involved in this incident.
