HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and some state legislators have addressed busloads of charter school students, teachers and parents who rallied outside the state Capitol Tuesday evening in support of increased funding.

In his revised budget plan, Malloy proposes to increase per-student funding for charters schools from the current $9,400 to $11,000.

Malloy was joined by lawmakers, including Senate Majority Leader Martin Looney, a Democrat from New Haven, and Rep. Sean Williams, a Republican from Watertown. They thanked those who came and encouraged them to continue to rally in favor of charter school funding and education reforms.

The rally preceded an Appropriations Committee public hearing on the governor’s proposed budget adjustments where some attendees were expected to testify in support of increased funding.
