Gampel Pavilion has been chosen to host first-round and second-round action in next year’s NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. UConn is one of 16 hosts chosen for the early rounds, the 18th time it has done so. The UConn Women are 30 and 2 in NCAA Tournament play at Gampel.
Other cities to host the early rounds are Baton Rouge, La.; Boulder, Colo.; College Park, Md.; College Station, Texas; Columbus, Ohio; Durham, N.C.; Iowa City, Iowa; Knoxville, Tenn.; Louisville, Ky.; Lubbock, Texas; Newark, Del.; Queens, N.Y.; Spokane, Wash.; Stanford, Calif., and Waco, Texas. They are home to schools from nine different conferences.
After that, the tournament will move to four sites for regional play. Those cities are Norfolk, Va.; Oklahoma City, Okla.; Spokane, Wash., and Trenton, N.J.
The dates for rounds one and two will be chosen in June. They will be either Saturday, March 23 and Monday, March 25 or Sunday, March 24 and Tuesday, March 26, 2013. The Women’s Final Four next year will be at New Orleans Arena in New Orleans, Louisiana.
