UConn Names New Athletic Director

The University of Connectcut will introduce its new Director of Athletics Monday.  The school announced Sunday that Warde  Manuel,  Athletic Director at the University of Buffalo for the past six years,  will sign a five-year contract with the option for a two-year extensiuon.

Manuel, who is from New Orleans, is a former student-athlete at the University of Michigan.

He’ll be paid $450,000 a year, with a $100,000 annual performance incentive if the teams meet cetain academic and performance goals,  and is eligible for an additional $100,000 in deferred compensation at the end of the five-year contract.

President Susan Herbst says the search for a new athletic director drew “an amazing pool of candidates from across the nation.”  He will replace Acting Athletic Director Paul Pendergast, who took over after the resignation of Jeff Hathaway.
