HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Connecticut state lawmakers are returning to the Capitol for the start of the new legislative session.
The short, three-month session opens Wednesday morning. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is scheduled to give his State of the State Address around noon to a joint session of the General Assembly.
Wednesday also marks when the Democratic governor releases proposed changes to the second year of the two-year, $40.1 billion budget passed last year. Malloy has said he doesn’t expect any major spending cuts or new tax increases, even though a deficit had developed in the current fiscal year.
Malloy has said he expects revenues will still climb, as budgeted.
Education reform is expected to be a major topic this year, as well as jobs, new rules for utilities and liquor law changes.
