WETHERSFIELD, Conn. (AP) _ Department of Motor Vehicles offices across Connecticut will be closed for a day or two over the coming weeks, part of an agency-wide effort to modernize computer services and allow customers to conduct more transactions online.
On Tuesday, the Willimantic office will be closed for one day. The Willimantic and Putnam offices will be shut down on Wednesday. Other offices and branches are also scheduled to be closed on certain days in February and March.
Customers should check DMV’s website for dates.
The DMV is conducting a two-year computer modernization project that will allow customers to do more things online, such as canceling marker plates if they’re been lost or stolen, and ordering vanity plates. DMV plans to offer eight-character vanity plates. Motorists are currently limited to six characters.
