Mystic Pizza II in North Stonington reopened today, after a Hummer crashed into the side of the building last night.

“It was one of those crazy things,” Owner Harry Spanos said. “I have been here for twenty years and I have never seen anything like it.”

Spanos says a deck was damaged, a door was destroyed, and part of the side of the building was pushed in.

“I was in shock.  I couldn’t believe that out of a parking lot, something like that could happen,” Spanos said.

Police say the woman driving the Hummer tried to run away, but officers found her later.

There were no injuries in the pizza restaurant near the intersection of Route 2 and Route 184.

One of the building’s dining rooms was still closed Thursday, but customers could eat in other parts of the building.

Mystic Pizza II used to be part of the same company as Mystic Pizza in Mystic, but Spanos bought his location from the owners of the Mystic location.

The owners of both locations are related.
