Hartford Attorney Nominated for Federal Bench

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ President Barack Obama has nominated Hartford attorney Michael P. Shea for a federal district judgeship in Connecticut.

The nomination was announced Thursday by the White House.

Shea is a partner at Day Pitney LLP and chairman of its appellate practice group. He has represented individuals, nonprofits and corporations in civil and criminal cases and argued appeals in both state and federal courts.

He is a 1993 graduate of Yale Law School. He began his career as a clerk for the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington, D.C., and also worked for Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen and Hamilton LLP in Washington and Brussels, Belgium, before joining Day Pitney in 1998.

Senators Joe Lieberman and Richard Blumenthal said Shea has “an impressive range” of experience.
His appointment must be confirmed by the Senate.
