BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) _ Beardsley Zoo says it’s receiving a $78,000 grant to help it train youths in wildlife conservation.
The three-year grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services will support the Bridgeport zoo’s Conservation Discovery Corps teen program.
The zoo said Monday that the program is a year-round science program to provide 14-to-17-year-old students with wildlife conservation training.
The program allows students to educate visitors about animals and their habitats.
Students also are able to engage with scientists in research and habitat restoration work, helping the students serve as zoo visitor guides.
The program began in 2008, drawing 14 high school students in Bridgeport. The program now includes 40 to 50 students.
