Hartford Policeman Killed In Off-Duty Accident

A two-year veteran of the Hartford Police Department was killed early Friday in a single-vehicle accident in Hebron.  28-year-old John Marvin was a Navy veteran of the Iraq war and was currently a sergeant in the Connecticut National Guard.

State Police say Marvin’s Dodge Journey was southbound on Route 85 in Hebron just after midnight,  failed to stop at the stop sign at the Route 94 intersection,  and hit the embankment on the right shoulder.  The state police report says the airbag deployed, but Marvin was not wearing his seat belt.

Mayor Pedro Segarra ordered city flags to be lowered to half staff.  Marvin was the son of a retired Manchester policeman and the brother of another Hartford officer.
