The majority leader of the U.S. Senate has weighed in on the controversy in East Haven over Mayor Joseph Maturo’s comment that he might order tacos to respond to the city’s Latino community’s concerns about East Haven police.
Senator Richard Blumenthal issued a statement calling Maturo’s comments “unacceptable” and “appallingly disrepectful to the Latino community and all democratic values.”
In response, Senator Harry Reed issued a tweet forwarding Blumenthal’s remarks and agreeing with him. Reid says the Justice Department was correct to investigate.
Federal authorities this week arrested four East Haven police, charging civil rights violations.
