Fluoride Spill At West Hartford Reservoir

Crews were working to clean up a fluoride spill at the Metropolitan District Commission Reservoir on Farmington Avenue in West Hartford Thursday morning.

An MDC spokesperson says the spill, from a tanker truck carrying 4,500 gallons of fluoride,  was reported around 9 a.m., during a routine delivery of fluoride to the reservoir. It was not immediately clear how much fluoride spilled. What remained on the truck was being offloaded to a holding tank a the reservoir.

Officials say there was no danger to the public or to the water supply. However, crews were using care in handling the chemical because it is corrosive and poses a contact danger.
