Windsor Man Charged With Killing Black Bear

An 82-year-old Windsor man is charged with killing a bear in his back yard.  Wildlife officers called to the Poquonock Avenue residence found a dead black bear,  about five or six years old, weighing about 250 pounds.

Another bear, about a year old, roaming nearby, was tranquilized and relocated.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection says environmental conservation police determined the bear had apparently caused damage to a bird feeder in the yard, and was shot with a .30 calber rifle while it was in a tree.

John Rocha was charged with illegally killing a black bear and with illegal hunting.
