State Trooper Cruiser Struck By Two Cars

Two motor vehicle accidents on I-95 Southbound in Stamford yesterday afternoon were investigated by State Police.

State trooper Clinton Desoto was traveling on I-95 southbound north of exit 7 in the left lane when he was struck by a 1998 Dodge Caravan.

The van was spinning from the right lane towards the left lane after striking the bridge barrier on the right shoulder. Desoto and the van collided in the left travel lane at two points of impact.

Desoto’s vehicle struck the median jersey barrier coming to an uncontrolled final rest in the left lane. The van spun to an uncontrolled final rest blocking the right travel lane before the operator of the vehicle left the scene on foot.

A 2002 Nissan Sentra, containing four people, then struck Desoto’s cruiser from behind in the left travel lane. Both vehicles came to an uncontrolled final rest blocking the left travel lane.

Trooper Desoto was transported to Stamford Hospital via Stamford EMS with a head laceration and left leg pain. The four members of the Nissan were also transported to Stamford Hospital by ambulance with minor injuries.
