Petition Seeks Teacher’s Reinstatement

DANBURY, Conn. (AP) _ Nearly 200 students and parents have signed a petition supporting a Connecticut rookie teacher whose contract was not renewed after scheduling on a field trip went awry.

The News-Times of Danbury reports that Abbott Technical High School graphics teacher George Milligan is losing the job he’s held for two years unless the state-run technical school system reinstates him.

Officials say Milligan coordinated a trip for students, parents and alumni to a New York City technology convention in October, but they missed the last return train from Norwalk to Danbury.

Students stayed at Milligan’s relative’s home until parents picked them up or Milligan and other adults dropped them off.

Supporters are petitioning state officials to reinstate Milligan, who didn’t have tenure. The school’s principal is not commenting, saying it’s a personnel matter.
