Meriden Police say an infant girl died after becoming trapped between the mattress and the headboard of a bed.
No charges have been filed.
“It’s absolutely devastating to any family,” said Sergeant Darrin McKay.
McKay said the baby had been dropped off at the Sherman Avenue home, to be watched by a relative.
The relative took a nap on the bed with the baby. When she woke up, she did not see the child.
Police say the infant apparently rolled to the headboard, and got caught while the relative was asleep.
The child was from Willimantic, and had been dropped off at the home by her father.
She was regularly cared for at the Meriden home.
Police did not release the names of the people involved.
